Maintaining Spa Water
Many people buy a spa with the notion that they won’t have to do anything to maintain the water. This is not the case. I always advise a new spa owner to think of your pool water as a living breathing entity. It requires regular attention and a certain amount of maintenance.
Unfortunately I find that many spa owners are too lax when it comes to maintaining their spa water. Improperly maintained spa water is a major health risk. Others check the chlorine or bromine regularly, but never worry about the other balance factors such as pH, Total Alkalinity & Calcium Hardness that enable to sanitiser to do its job. And finally, I see only a few spa customers go to the trouble of maintaining their Total Dissolved Solids (TDS).
TDS is an important test for spa owners as it will let you know when you need to change the water in your spa. When you have a high TDS the water is too saturated to absorb further chemicals and as such, your sanitiser cannot do its job. In this environment, added by tempered water, bacteria can grow rapidly. If you ingest this water while using the spa it could cause serious illness.
The TDS of fresh rain water is about 25. You should think about changing your spa water when the TDS gets to 1500. Your sanitiser is greatly reduced when your TDS reaches around 2500.
Rapidly increasing TDS is caused by increased usage and increased chemical usage. There’s no real way to slow it down… It’s just what happens when we keep a small volume of water trapped for months at a time while continuing to swim and add chemicals.
To get the most out of your sparing experience, bring a regular sample into us for a Health Check. We check all five key balance items to ensure you and your family stay safe while enjoying your spa.

no fuss no worries
We've been using Lange Pool and Spa ever since Darren started the business.
I'm a busy person and don't really have the time for pool maintenance.
LP&S come around once a month drop off the chemicals, test the water, fix anything that needs attending to and leave a short note telling us what they've done.
What I have now is no algae, no sore eyes, no out of whack ph levels - just a crystal clear pool thats ready to go whenever we hop into it.
What else do you need??
